Ok, the idea of being self supported during this years (my first) Biking Across Kansas  ride has be squelched with the quickness. Me and my friend Rob did a little s240 to get a little touring experience under the belt as far as actual load riding and setting up camp etc. I am pretty disappointed in my tent as it has pink trim and pink rain cover. I didn’t realize there was a men and women’s section for tents lol.

I had a blast and Rob (U.S. Marine) showed me lots of usefull things to assist one in the bush as he called it. We met at the west Y.M.C.A and rode out from there. Taking 21st street the entire way and looped around to a trail entrance on the north side that let us into the lake.

I will be creating a place holder post that I will hopefully be able to edit from my phone during the BAK ride. We shall see how my TMO coverage is since it usually sucks.

Here is a few pics of the ride

The Lake for those reading not from Wichita or surrounding areas

Cant wait to do it again, I did this last year and had a blast..it isnt as easy as it looks, you really have to peddle alot of loot..I weighed my Back tire at 85# when I got home, that was minus the food and water, so I bet I was over 100 when we headed out..you really learn fast on what you need and what is just added weight..It all rode good though, keeping the load low to the ground is the key, I was alittle wore out on the ride home, no one to talk to and just beat because I was up all nite at Afton with the storms and the noisy neighbors that Afton seems to attract, but other than that I would enjoy doing it again..Let’s take a big group this time, come on all you bike riders, this in itself is a challenge you should look forward in trying to complete.

It looks like you had a lot of fun! So are you not going to do self support for BAK? I can’t wait to hear all about your trip. :) Next year…

    Thanks Rob and sounds good,
@ Jackie I am only going to carry cycling stuff on the bike, the rest of the stuff I am going to let them carry on the trucks. Maybe next time I could be self supported, I just don’t think it would be a wise decision on my part this time around
