I recently had the pleasure of hosting a few guys riding across America in attempts to raise awareness for a variety of issues. They originally posted a craiglist ad in the bike section that I seen and replied to and offered that they could come stay at my house. All they asked for was a place to throw down some tents. there more correspondance I had with Paul the more comfortable I became with the idea of letting them crash in the basement. I got with family over at Connies Mexico Cafe and arranged a small food donation. I much wanted to be sure I mentioned them they guys loved it and it was very, very appreciated. I hooked them up with showers and some wifi they were all friendly and I enjoyed hearing their stories. I have huge respect for what they are doing as I know how hard it was for me to ride across Kansas let alone the entire United States fully loaded.

Paul, Hung, Scott, Kevin

They also told me about a website that arranges for people who share the love of riding and touring to hook up with each other as well as with hosting. Visit WarmShowers.org to learn more. I had a great experience and would hope to host some more people in the future. Be sure to read the personal safety page and use common sense if you host. You can specify on how much hosting you are interested in providing. If you are a little hesitant at the process maybe only make your yard available to a few persons for tenting. Either way check it out.
